Office of Research and Innovation Services (ORIS)

SLTC is home to highly qualified and motivated group of academics involved in top quality cutting edge research. Our academics takes part in a number of research projects in collaboration with researchers from various local and international universities such as RMIT Vietnam, Deakin University Australia, Manipal University Jaipur India etc. Further we do have strong collaborations with industry experts from various industries such as Telecommunication carriers, Electrical equipment manufacturers, and Infrastructure developers.

All our research activities are coordinated by the Office for Research and Innovation Services (ORIS) which facilitates research form applying a research grant to publication of their research outcomes. Further, ORIS is equipped to extend its support to convert research outcomes to commercially viable products.

List of Ongoing Projects and Consultancies

Academic staff f SLTC along is carrying out following projects with the support of external research grants

International Collaborations

  1. “Capturing Real-Time Data through Optimal Deployment of Multiple Mobile Robots in Hazardous Indoor Environments”

PI (Sri Lankan side): Dr. Thilini Rajakaruna

Co-PI (Sri Lankan side): Dr. Subodha Gunawardena

Funding Body: Indo Sri Lanka Joint Research Programme of Ministry of Science Technology and Research, Sri Lanka (MSTR),

Grant Awarded: Oct 2017,

Duration: 3 years

International Collaborator: School of Electrical, Electronics and Communication Eng., Manipal University, Jaipur, India.

This project would investigate the deployment of a Multiple Mobile Robot System (MMRS) in hazardous indoor environments in order to relay time-critical data targeting search and rescue applications in the event of a disaster. A framework would be developed utilizing Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) to establish data sharing for efficient routing and localization within the MMRS operating indoors.

2. “Secure Modulation-based Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer”, No. 325692

Funding Body: ACADEMY OF FINLAND (bilateral agreement between with Russian Academy of Sciences, RAS.)

Grant Awarded: Feb 2019,

Duration: One year

3. “Self-Energized UAV-Assisted Communications for 5G Wireless Networks”

Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaborative, Ministry of Human Resource Development, India, 120,000$,

Grant Awarded: Jan 2019

Duration: Two years

Industry Partner: Orange Electricals to prototype automation of product assembly lines.

Inhouse Collaborator: Embedded Systems and Robotics research group

Group of senior academics from Embedded systems & Robotics research group conslt the project while selected undergraduates work as interns during their industrial training periods.

International Workshops

Workshop on Non-Linear Control and Robotics (NCR2019)

The four day workshop NCR2019 concluded on the 23rd, followed by a leisure-dinner with refreshments and informal brainstorming on how to sustain this effort as a collaborative event that will rotate between SLTC (Sri Lanka), IITB (India), and AIT (Thailand) with possible extension to include South Korea.

The workshop was organized by the office of Research and International Affairs of SLTC in collaboration with CRIS (Center for Research and Innovation cervices) with the support of ORIS (Office for research and Innovation Services).
