Cognition is the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and the senses. We are interested in investigating, modeling and developing technology platforms that involve with Artificial Intelligence and Signal Processing. More specifically, Data Science, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Speech and Vision Recognition.
The Cognitive Computing research group is one of the key research groups of SLTC and our research is primarily focused on the fundamental question of what makes humans and machines intelligent. As an initial step towards this, we are aiming to provide efficient technical assistance for sign language translation for communication. This project is driven towards developing a sign language interpreter for the Sinhala language in a classroom with hearing-impaired students.
Intermediary and final results of the project will be beneficial for the deaf community whether learning in school or at the university.
